2009 is proving that it really will be the year to remember in so many ways. From the economic meltdown to the loss of ladies fashion and style icons, the clothing trends this summer have been taking a more simplistic turn than past years. The current trends have pulled heavily from the 60’s and 70’s relaxed styles. For instance, the babydoll shirt is popular among celebrities and fashionistas this year. Bold colors paired in a very non-traditional way are also highly desirable. Ripped and wide-legged jeans paired with loose fitting, comfortable tops are right on this summer.

As far as dresses go, you can’t browse celebrity pictures or turn on the television without seeing one of the many colorful maxis that are on the market right now. As a tall woman, I can say that this is probably one of my absolute favorite trends this summer. I never remember a time when I could buy a dress that would actually drag on the ground. I now have about 10 different maxis, all different colors and cuts, but I love them all. If you are a shorter woman, don’t worry. The maxi is not hard to hem up a few inches and it can still look great no matter how tall you are. Pair these glamorous but casual dresses with draping jewelry and bracelets then top off with chandelier earrings. You will never feel sexier or trendier.

Now let’s talk shoes. Any fashionista knows how important trendy shoes are for a wardrobe. What’s more, if you choose to wear shoes that our outdated, you will date yourself. This year, keeping with the comfort trend, the gladiator sandal should be on the top of your ‘must have’ list. These trendy sandals can be anywhere from ankle length to knee length while still staying true to their sandal classification. They will be like heaven on your feet compared to the toe-jamming stilettos of past years.

No matter what your style, you are sure to find a plethora of comfort this year at all of your favorite boutiques. Despite the comfort, though, you are sure to look as hot as ever.

Not many didn’t think the indestructible Colleen Utsinger, my youthful partner in crime, would need a collection of wigs. Her extravagant hair and fashion was synonymous with her femininity. Have you seen her lately? There’s no question she will always be known for her attitude. Not many in town can tell she compensates for medical hair loss with well-crafted African American wigs. They look that good.

Back in the day as youths finding our way in Arizona, we regularly took turns winning Miss “SCH” four years running. Of course, until her alopecia started acting up and her hair wouldn’t be the same. I suggested some human hair wigs. Oh well, it didn’t matter much. Even on bad days she took the time and showcased her innate beauty.

I had to oblige.

We got so worried about her. That night, I called about going shopping with me for a new lace front wig. Eventually we both arrived at the only logical action: lace front wigs for all! I used my credit card, and it was worth it.

We had a great time, flabbergasted by the options. We never knew that lace front wigs could be so professionally crafted for people, even superstars. These synthetic wigs were marvelous. Not long ago she thanked me for her wig, and explained it encourages a lost identity in her life. It’s delightful to realize my best friend live a happier existence. We both are.
