Man Dies while Working Alone

Auto Date Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

A worker at a Preston company was found by his work colleagues after he died in a tragic accident as a result of becoming trapped in machinery. Michael Lahaza from the Ashton area died while working at Deepdale based company Autoy Ltd.

The 45-year-old music fanatic is being mourned by his family and workmates, although he did not have any children. The incident is now the subject of a full-scale investigation not only by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) but also the local police.

Mr Lahaza was working at Autoy on Saturday morning, is workmates thought it strange that this car was seen parked outside the premises a considerable time after he should have finished work at lunchtime.

They went back inside to investigate and regrettably discovered his body, then rescue workers later declared him dead at the scene. Detectives immediately began an investigation into the cause of his death which is believed to have been an industrial accident; they also called in the HSE to collaborate in the inquiry.

An industrial accident can happen totally without warning especially when an employee is working alone without the eyes and ears of workmates to watch over each other’s safety.
